Moving into a new home is exciting, but sometimes a daunting experience, both for the individual and those who are part of the person’s life, that’s why it’s important to choose a provider you can trust.
You may know Supported Independent Living (SIL) under titles such as – Disability Accommodation or Group Homes. These were the terms used prior to the introduction of the NDIS. They all refer to accommodation where you are supported to live independently with staff either dropping in, are onsite for emergencies or where are located in the home 24/7
Our homes are in the communities where we live and work, and are tailored to your individual needs. Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS funded model of shared accommodation. It can mean living with one or more people that have similar personalities and needs and are supported by ConnectAbility staff across aspects of daily living.
There are a variety of models that are funded by the NDIS and ConnectAbility work with individuals, families and Coordinators of Support to help you to live in a home that is best suited to your needs. You may be looking at sharing with others or being on your own. You could be looking at apartments, villas or houses either in the centre of town or something more rural.
We can provide concierge models where in an apartment setting there is someone onsite to cover emergencies when your regular support provider is not rostered. ConnectAbility has a range of homes you may like to look at or can help source something specific to meet your needs. We have opportunities across the Hunter, Central Coast and down to northern Sydney. Our aim is to give you choice and control over how you live your life. Call us to start a conversation today.

Supported Independent Living was formerly referred to as Disability Accommodation or Group Homes prior to the introduction of the NDIS. SIL services are available for those who want to live independently but find it difficult to live alone.
With Supported Independent Living, individuals have access to accommodation that offers a safe and relaxed space where staff can either drop in to offer support, are onsite for emergencies or are located in the home 24/7.
ConnectAbility Australia has established long-standing partnerships with local accommodation providers so we can offer a range of quality housing options for individuals availing of the Supported Independent Living scheme.
Tenants get to choose providers through consensus. This provider is then on site 24/7 and can be accessed for those unplanned or emergency supports via the communication systems included in your apartment. These emergencies might include if you have a fall or to assist with transfers during the night.
We work alongside each resident as they move into their new home to ensure they get the outcome they are looking for. This might include choosing suitable staff to provide support or identifying the equipment and technology that would make daily life easier in their new home.
Concierge Supported Independent Living is available for adults with a range of disability needs and dependency levels. Trained staff members are on-call to offer assistance with daily scheduled needs such as personal care and meal preparation with the concierge service providing:
Supported Independent Living under the Concierge Model is designed for those who wish to live a more self-sufficient life. This could mean individuals who are currently living with their parents or those who live alone but would prefer to live with housemates.
The decision about whether someone lives alone or with housemates is based on their NDIS plan assessment needs, personal preferences, SIL compatibility and NDIS budget. If an individual is found suitable to live with others in Concierge Model Supported Independent Living accommodation, we always try to match them with housemates who have shared interests and life goals.
Under NDIS guidelines, there are a number of factors taken into consideration when evaluating the type of SIL accommodation and support you need, including:
ConnectAbility Australia works closely with individuals accessing Supported Independent Living services to ensure that residents receive the highest standard of care and support within SIL housing accommodation in New South Wales. Our coordinators are trained in supporting people with complex needs and can provide high-quality support to each individual.
We always aim to encourage individuals to make their own choices on how they live their lives but offer our support and guidance when independent living may become difficult. The support a concierge team provides will give residents the confidence to live in their own homes while still having quality support and care. This enables individuals to live an independent life on their schedule, while also enjoying involvement in the community.
Housing for a concierge model is often apartment-style living with staff located in a separate space within the building. Apartments are generally adapted to offer additional assistance to those with mobility, hearing, visual or other needs to increase independence for residents.
ConnectAbility Australia wants to offer individuals a choice on where they live and can assist those with disabilities to find suitable housing across the Hunter Valley, Central Coast and northern Sydney.
